About our South Shields Nursery
Ashfield Nursery, located in South Shields, has been providing top-quality childcare services for over two decades. Our Directors/Managers, Karen and Brian Powell, established Ashfield Nursery on Stanhope Road in 2002. The nursery was born out of Karen’s desire to run a chain of nurseries that provided exceptional care and education to children in South Shields and surrounding areas. Our goal at Ashfield Nursery is to provide children with the best possible start in life by creating a warm, loving, safe, and secure environment that fosters growth and development.
Within a year of opening, we expanded our facilities to keep up with the growing demand for childcare services. In November 2002, Brian and Karen opened a second nursery at South Tyneside District Hospital, enabling us to serve even more families in the community. Both of our sister nursery sites cater to children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old, and we are proud to serve families from areas such as Newcastle, Sunderland, and beyond.

About Our Nurseries
At Ashfield South Shields Nursery, we employ a child-centred approach to learning, tailoring our teaching methods to each child’s unique needs and interests. Our dedicated team of staff believes that every child is special and deserves individual attention and care.
Alongside our exceptional childcare services, we offer unique features such as a garden area with climbing frames, slides, and a vegetable patch where children can grow and nurture their fruit and vegetables, developing their understanding of responsibility and the natural world around them.
Our nurseries have been designed to cater to children’s needs, with ample indoor and outdoor spaces, and all nursery rooms have access to “free-flow” to promote independent learning and play. At Ashfield Nursery, we value parent partnership and believe that it is essential to the care we provide. We encourage and welcome parents to engage in their child’s learning journal and share their experiences, allowing us to create a learning environment that is perfectly tailored to each child’s individual needs.

A little more about our South Shields Nursery
Our opening times for South Shields nursery care are from 7.00am-6.00pm, and all meals and snacks are included in your fees, freshly prepared daily with a 5-star food hygiene rating. Our staff come from all surrounding areas, including Sunderland, Newcastle, Durham, and South Shields, and are fully qualified, ranging from Level 3 to Level 6. We also cater to children from all over the world, with kids from Poland, Nigeria, Holland, the Philippines, and China currently in our care. We strive to create a caring environment that makes children feel like they belong at our South Shields nursery.
All our staff members are up to date with current legislation, including first aid certificates, Safeguarding, and food hygiene, and engage in regular training to ensure that their knowledge is up to date and that they can provide the highest quality care for your children. The majority of our team have been at Ashfield Nursery for over 5 years, providing a stable and caring nursery environment.

Our Ladybird Rooms provide a stimulating environment where our youngest children explore independently, using all their senses and growing abilities.
Caterpillar 1Y - 2Y
The children in our caterpillar room are at the age where they are up on their feet and ready to explore their surroundings
Butterfly 2Y - 3Y
Our Butterfly children are encouraged to be independent through their experiences and imagination
Busy Bee 3Y - 5Y
Open 7AM - 6PM
We are open Monday to Friday from 7AM - 6PM
