Caterpillar Rooms
The children in our caterpillar room are at the age where they are up on their feet and ready to explore their surroundings. They need a protected environment to feel safe and secure but require more opportunities to be physically active and try things out for themselves. Our room has been designed with this in mind.
They can explore soft bricks, malleable play and loose parts, which helps to develop their intellectual thinking and also their fine motor skills, which they can explore and investigate safely.
In our caterpillar room, we provide a hive of activities to cover all areas of development where children play cooperatively under the close nurturing supervision of staff.
Daily communication diary sheets are provided for each child so that parents/carers are kept up to date with their child’s day at nursery.
1 – 2 Years
Supporting your child
Our approach to childcare involves promoting the development of both fine and gross motor skills through sensory exploration and edible play. We utilise various tools and activities to encourage independent movement around the room, which in turn helps to build core muscle strength.
Physical Development
Continuing to build and supporting growth of fine and gross motor skills through sensory exploration and edible play. Using a variety of indoor and outdoor apparatus to support movement independently to build core muscle strength. Introducing open ended resources to create marks in a array of ways. As your child grows between 1-2 years old, they are developing important fine and gross motor skills such as their balance, climbing and running which will develop rapidly.
Communication and Language
To enhance and support children’s early language using a variety of exaggerated facial expressions and simple words. Responding to and understanding the child’s individual communication to build upon their vocabulary from an early age. Using lots of nursery rhymes, simple picture and one-word books to support their early development in communication and promoting their imagination skills. Staff model and reinforce words to our caterpillar children which are then repeated back and pronounce words correctly as your child shows emerging language.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
For your child to continue to build their own strong bonds between peers and staff. To promote understanding of primary emotions such as happy, sad, fear, anger, interest, and joy. To pursue early independence through mealtimes by encouraging the use of cutlery. Introducing a visual routine for children to begin to understand nursery routines. Staff encourage children to take responsibility for their environment and children show great consideration and cooperation as they help their friends to tidy away the toys.
